Dr. Ashanti Johnson is one of the first Black female chemical oceanographers in the world.

Dr. Ashanti Johnson is the first Black person to earn a doctoral degree in oceanography from Texas A&M University and one of the first Black female chemical oceanographers in the world. She is the CEO/Superintendent of Cirrus Academy, a statewide STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) charter school system in Georgia. She is also an associate professor at Mercer University. Dr. Johnson is also a dedicated STEM advocate, with an extensive career in diversifying representation in all STEM fields.
