Dr. Carlita B. Favero is an Associate Professor of Biology and Neuroscience at Ursinus College. She completed her doctoral studies and postdoctoral fellowship under the guidance of Dr. James W. Mandell and Dr. Noelle D. Dwyer, respectively, of the University of Virginia.

Dr. Favero’s lab studies the impact of casual drinking during pregnancy on brain development using a mammalian model system (Swiss Webster mice). She is particularly interested in the effects on the development of axonal connections between the thalamus and cerebral cortex. These connections are essential for proper sensation and perception and may underlie sensory processing defects evident in humans with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders.

In addition to bench science, Dr. Favero is passionate about diversifying STEM and has consistently engaged in projects and publications to promote greater representation of systemically marginalized groups in undergraduate STEM education.
