Dr. Edward Bouchet

Dr. Edward Bouchet was the first Black person to earn a Ph.D. and one of the first Black graduates of Yale University.

Dr. Edward Bouchet was the first Black person to earn a Ph.D. and one of the first Black graduates of Yale University. He was also a member of Phi Beta Kappa Society. Despite his academic achievements, Dr. Bouchet found it difficult to obtain faculty positions. He eventually spent the majority of his career as a professor at HBCUs such as Cheyney University of Pennsylvania and St. Paul’s College.
