Dr. Etta Z. Falconer was a student of Dr. Evelyn Boyd Granville, one of the first Black women to earn a Ph.D. in mathematics. A Phi Beta Kappa member, she briefly taught at Norfolk State University before spending the majority of her career at Spelman College. While at Spelman, Dr. Falconer served as chair of the Department of Mathematics and Associate Provost for Science Programs and Policy. She also created the Departments of Computer Science and Chemistry, and she was responsible for the building that housed the Division of Natural Sciences.
