Dr. Georgia Caldwell Smith is one of the first Black women to earn a bachelor’s degree in math. She served as a professor at Spelman College, Lincoln University (Missouri) and Alabama State University, eventually serving as the chair of the Department of Mathematics at Spelman until her death. Her Ph.D. was awarded posthumously, as she her thesis was approved months before her passing. Dr. Smith was also a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Pi Mu Epsilon.
