Dr. Mae Jemison

Dr. Mae Jemison is the first Black woman in space.

Dr. Mae Jemison is a physician and astronaut. In 1987, she became the first Black woman admitted to the NASA astronaut training program. In 1992, she became the first Black woman in space, aboard the Endeavour.

 

Fun Fact: Dr. Jemison has enjoyed a passion for dancing since childhood. Prior to her career with NASA, she served in the Peace Corps in Liberia and Sierra Leone.
