Dr. Marie Maynard Daly was the first Black woman to earn a Ph.D. in chemistry in the U.S. Her research was the first to identify a relationship between cholesterol and clogged arteries, which was important information on the causes of heart attacks. Dr. Daly also briefly taught at Howard University.
