Dr. Marsha R. Williams is the first Black woman to earn a Ph.D. in computer science. She was also a leading expert in the user experience in querying large databases. Dr. Williams held faculty positions at Fisk University, Tennessee State University, and the University of Mississippi. She became a full professor at Tennessee State University, where her research in database querying gained her continued international recognition. Dr. Williams is a STEM advocate, and speaks on topics of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the field. Her industry experience includes IBM, and she also served as a National Science Foundation fellow.
