Dr. Shirley Ann Jackson is the first Black woman to earn a doctorate from MIT.

Dr. Shirley Ann Jackson is the first Black woman to earn a doctorate from MIT and the second Black woman to earn a doctorate in physics in this country. She is currently the president of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, serving as the first woman and first Black president in the university’s history.
