Dr. Shirley Malcom is the Head of Education and Human Resources Programs at the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). Prior to joining AAAS, she served on the faculty at the University of North Carolina-Wilmington. In 1976, Dr. Malcom published “The Double Bind: The Price of Being a Minority Woman in Science,” which is just as relevant today. A true champion for STEM diversity, equity, and inclusion, Dr. Malcom became a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1995 and, in 2003, was awarded the Public Welfare Medal, which is the highest award presented by the National Academy of Sciences.

 

Fun Fact: Dr. Malcom has received over 16 honorary degrees.
