Dr. Solomon C. Fuller was a psychiatrist, pathologist, and professor who performed groundbreaking research on the effects of Alzheimer’s disease on the brain. He also helped to correctly diagnose the effects of syphilis, which significantly helped Black veterans who were routinely misdiagnosed, discharged, and ineligible for military benefits. He also helped to properly train others to correctly diagnose patients. Due to the racial discrimination, he faced as a physician, Dr. Fuller’s duties were often relegated to performing autopsies. It was in this work that he made discoveries that would significantly help his career as a researcher.
