Dr. Wade Kornegay was a leading expert in missile defense during the Cold War. While working for MIT Lincoln Lab, he led the development of a technique to track ballistic missiles that simultaneously differentiated them based on their level of threat to the U.S. This was extremely important, as new technologies at the time allowed for the launching of fake missiles to confuse missile defense systems. Dr. Kornegay was also dedicated to diversity in STEM, and served as the director of the National Consortium for Black Professional Development.
