Mr. Benjamin Banneker was a mathematician, astronomer, almanac compiler, inventor, and writer. Mostly self-taught, his mathematical and astronomy skills allowed him to build a fully functioning and accurate wooden clock, as well as properly predict a solar eclipse in the late 18th century. Mr. Banneker also published commercially successful almanacs. He was also part of the surveying team that was responsible for surveying the initial boundaries of Washington, DC.
