Mr. Charles F. Bolden, Jr. is a former astronaut and the former NASA administrator (appointed by President Barack Obama in 2009). He is a veteran of over four space flights and logged over 680 hours in space. He was also the first human to have his voice broadcast on the surface of Mars.

Fun Fact: Mr. Bolden’s original appointment to the US Naval Academy as a high-school senior was rejected by the South Carolina Congressional delegation (including Strom Thurmond). After personally writing then-President Lyndon B. Johnson, he was appointed by Rep. William Dawson of Illinois.
