Mr. Howard P. Grant was the first Black graduate from the University of California, Berkeley College of Engineering. He was also the first Black member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and first Black civil engineer for the City and County of San Francisco. Mr. Grant was the second Black civil engineer to be licensed by the State of California. In addition to his dedication to his field, Mr. Grant was also dedicated to his community, and he served as a board member for Big Brothers, Hunter’s Point Boy’s Club, and other organizations. He was also a founding member of the Engineering Societies Committee for Manpower Training.
