Mr. Norbert Rillieux was an inventor who is also considered to be one of the first chemical engineers in the United States. He is best known for inventing the multiple-effect evaporator, which revolutionized sugar processing by providing better quality sugar at a lower cost. In 2002, the American Chemical Society designated his invention a National Historic Chemical Landmark.
