Mrs. Mary Jackson was one of the first Black “computers” of the West Area Computing Unit of the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA), the predecessor to NASA.

Mrs. Mary Jackson was one of the first Black “computers” of the West Area Computing Unit of the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA), the predecessor to NASA. Once it transitioned to NASA, she later became the organizations first Black female engineer (aerospace). Her story (along with Katherine Johnson’s and Dorothy Vaughn’s) was featured in the 2016 film, “Hidden Figures.”
